Hi Family; If I've done this correctly, you will receive this email that I am posting on the blog site "Milbourne Plus". Originally set up to improve communications between us, blogging does not seem to be something we consistently think of doing, I know I don't. So I can understand not adding to it on any consistent basis. From one of my recent searches for more ancestral information I found Milbourne Plus and our pictures on Google Images. I thought that was pretty cool because I know many people do the same thing as me searching for long lost ancestors. So now, if anyone besides me is looking, they will find us here. I have found many very interesting tidbits of info from doing this. Particularly meeting Charles Stanley of Illinois who is a cousin, removed or whatever they call it. It was his grandfather that our father was named after. His grandfather was our grandmother's brother, Nonny's brother. "Uncle Charlie" as they called him was shot and ...

This is the original article in The Decature Daily Review regarding our great, great Uncle Charlie. Below is the full chronicle of articles typed out from The Pontiac Daily Leader as typed out by Charles Stanley and sent to me a few years ago. Again, click on it to see better!

Some Family Info, Phyllis Barnhart Hynes

Image
Phillis wrote this about the time she put together the family tree. It's interesting that so many names are confusing because they use middle names a lot. I noticed that a son of Edward and Elizabeth, the first ones here from England, has his name listed in the tree as Matthew but in the "William Stephen Hamilton's Wiota, 1828 Diggings - 1993" a small book compiled about Wiota Wisconsin, it shows a few of our ancestors names there. For Matthew, who would be Uncle of Jonas, he is listed as J.M. Milbourn or James Matthew and I guess family mostly called him Matt. A copy of this book was sent to me by Charles Stanley. In this book it shows a copied picture of an original map of Wiota with plots of land, where they are and who owns them. It shows Jonah's property and lists it as 20 acres owned by "J.D. Milburn". Back then, I guess spelling names correctly was not a serious issue. In the "Wiota Items - 1888" sections it says that "Mat" Mil...

Charles Legacy Names

Image
The picture below is a pretty old one and little known to our family, Lucy Milbourne was married to Charles Milbourne and after his death in 1923, she remarried. It was her grandson who I made contact with several years ago on the internet where we shared info. He happened to be a writer for a paper in Illinois and he was able to send me copies of the original articles written about Charlie's murder. Lucy's daughter's name was Marilyn who had a son name Charles Stanley (another Charles, possibly after his granddad), he lived in Palos Heights, Illinois when we were in contact. It's interesting to note that little Marilyn was with her father when he was shot. It's important to share because the name goes back pretty far. Charles was also the name of Charles Earl (Lucy's husband) who was likely named for Charles, his Uncle, his father Jonas's brother who died at 18 years old. So, the habit of naming sons in the Milbourne family "Charles" goes back fro...

1916, Milbourne Family Gathering

Image
To the left is Martha "Annie" and daughter Geneva, a slew of other folks of which I think their names may be in the family tree. I know that in 1916, "Charlie" the oldest and first born Milbourne was still alive as he was shot in 1923 by a "shell-shocked" buddy from WW1 but more on that later. I think it's Jonas on the end in front to the right. If you look at one of the photo's to the right, that mustache is familiar.

Wedding Invite, Annie & Jonas

Image
This is the actual wedding invation with the name spelled "Colensworth". The rest of the family, shown in family bibles, spells the name "Collingsworth". Can't really know for sure which is correct. Now "Annie" was Jonas's pet name for her, her given name was Marth Ann Collingsworth. She's the pretty lady in the lower picture to the right with two children.

Below are two sections of the Family Tree Chart made by I think Phyllis Barnhart. It shows the two sections of family lines, Collingsworth and then Milbourne. If you click on the picture of it you can more clearly view the names.

Ancestral Photos

I was doing my ocasional checking the web for any new and view-able sites for my ancestry collection and I found this site. It occurred to me that possibly this is one of the only places you can view old pictures of our ancestors. If this internet thing lasts, and I think it just might, having all our precious photos for all to view for the eternity of the world wide web, might just be a good thing. So, I think I'll create another site with all that I can fit in there, since I've collected so very many and love doing it and it will keep me out of trouble for a few minutes at least. I'll be sure to post the link when I get it done. Smile if it helps!!!
